Postpartum Nutrition

Everyone talks about what baby needs, but what mom needs is just as important! All your energy is going towards baby, so the better cared for you are, the better cared for baby is! Here are a few tips on keeping your body feeling good as you care for your little one:

What To Eat/Supplements
-Get as many nutrients in as you can. Leafy greens are full of vitamins and minerals that may have become depleted in pregnancy (and continue to be depleted if you’re breastfeeding).
-Fruit is really important for energy. Your body needs a high amount of natural sugars to provide both you and nursing baby with energy. Honey and coconut water are also great natural sugars.
-Try to get 1000mg calcium per day. Calcium is often depleted post pregnancy. Good sources are broccoli, collard greens, kale, salmon, sesame, almonds and Brazil nuts.
-Healthy fats (avocados, nuts, seeds, olives, olive oil)
-Ample amounts of protein (lean towards plant based)
-Chlorella is a great supplement to cleanse breast milk
-vitamin D3
-continue taking a prenatal

For Post Partum Depression:
-often due to nutrient deficiencies of folic acid, b12, and iron
-get a good intake of iron, zinc, B12,B6, magnesium (especially helpful for relaxation and sleep) and protein
-find ways to take care of yourself such as massage and meditation
-make sure you exercise. It can be REALLY tough to get out of the house to do this, I know this firsthand. I LOVE @my.fit.life.now home workouts because they are not only awesome but also super affordable at $5.99 per month. Check them out!
